Since we last checked, a few new co-working spaces have opened in Cape Town. As home of the forever freelancer or town where foreigners wonder if creatives ever do anything besides frequent coffee shops with the best wi-fi deals, we thought it time for an update on where to find the comfiest, most invigorating and best co-working spaces.
The Bureaux
“We don’t think 9-5, we are 24/7” is the flexible work habit philosophy The Bureaux prides itself on. Desks, power, lighting, internet, security, 24/7 access, a kitchen and meeting facilities is what’s on offer if you choose to work here. Work & Co
Ideal for small and medium sized entrepreneurs or remote teams and freelancers, Work & Co is situated in an A-grade office building called Touchstone House. Kitted out with free coffee, lockers, printers, copiers, scanners, wi-fi and to top it off, the ease that comes when a parking bay is included. You can choose between a hot desk or private office, and can book meeting rooms if need be.

Workshop 17
Above the popular Watershed at the V&A Waterfront is Workshop 17; a collaborative hub where academics, foreigners and locals can mingle and work in bright and airy environment. Their workspace options range from being the occasional visitor to a full membership. Free wi-fi, access to large rooms with a capacity to hold conferences of 90 people, and catering are just some of the possible perks depending on your membership choice.

Hubspace Khayelitsha
This co-working space provides resources needed for fledgling entrepreneurs to get their businesses off the ground. The Maker Library
This hands-on creative hub is in the same space as the Maker Library Network project. Situated in the east city precinct, it’s equipped with a coffee bar, feel-good food from Chop Chop and strong sense of eco-friendly practices such as bringing your own mug and receiving discounts off your flat whites. It’s the perfect way to get work done and incorporate small practices on a daily basis that impact positively on the environment.

№80 Hout Street is an open-plan co-working studio for creative professionals. This quad-volume loft is light and spacious, with a roof terrace and a neat contemporary art collection. Membership includes internet, electricity, cleaning, fax, scanner and printer, a shared kitchen and lockers.

Established in 2011, Cape Town Office was one of the first co-working spaces in the Mother City. They’ve grown quite a lot since and now occupy 2 floors in their building. This spacious, affordable and collaborative co-working space is ideal for entrepreneurs, freelancers, small teams and students who simply can’t work from home. They offer flexible short-term leases, solid internet, a meeting room you book online and dedicated desk space in the heart of the Fringe district.

The Cape Town Garage
The Cape Town Garage is an open plan co-working space for startups, techies, entrepreneurs and new economy businesses. The Bandwidth Barn
Bandwidth Barn’s objective is to fast track the pace of business growth in the ICT sector. Spin Street House
Spin Street House is a membership-based clubhouse for culture and commerce. Having recently moved to a bigger and better location, Twenty Fifty is now broken up into 3 floors, including the gallery (an exhibition, event, and workshop space), the clubhouse (for more flexible co-working members), and the studio (for more permanent individuals and teams with their own desks). Their growing community is at close to 60 members and includes journalists, filmmakers, web developers, designers, entrepreneurs and academics.
